Alma Campiani, Psy.D.

Dr. Alma Campiani is a clinical psychologist at Pacific Anxiety Group. Her clinical work focuses on adults with anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, and complex trauma; as well as those navigating challenges with identity and sense of self. She draws on evidence-based interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and mentalization-based therapy (MBT). As an integrative clinician, she also incorporates relational psychodynamic and existential perspectives. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she has extensive experience providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment in both languages.

Dr. Campiani’s approach is fundamentally relational and depth-oriented, addressing both symptoms and the mechanisms that perpetuate them. She brings an incisive curiosity to her work, helping clients deconstruct the beliefs that quietly govern their lives. Warm yet direct, she is willing to confront what clients may have long avoided or kept hidden from themselves. Through exposure-based work, she helps clients face their most personal fears and move toward change that may be uncomfortable, but ultimately meaningful. All the while, she remains attuned to the interpersonal and cultural dimensions of suffering.

The therapeutic relationship is central to this process. Patterns emerge in the here and now, where they can be examined and new ways of relating can be practiced. Dr. Campiani is prepared to accompany her clients into difficult emotional territory, with a willingness to explore as deeply as they are ready to go. Grounded in a steadfast belief in the human capacity for transformation, Dr.Campiani aims to help her clients loosen the grip of entrenched, self-defeating patterns and reclaim a deeper sense of freedom, authenticity, and agency in their lives.

Educational background: Dr. Campiani earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP), where she trained in specialty clinics including the Anxiety Disorders Clinic and the Youth Anxiety and Depression Clinic. She went on to pursue advanced training in ERP for OCD as an exposure therapist at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP for OCD) at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety Disorders (CTSA). Her training in trauma-focused therapy includes work with refugees and asylees at the International Rescue Committee, as well as an APA-accredited internship at Jackson Health System/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she provided outpatient psychotherapy, inpatient consultation, and psychological testing to adults from diverse sociocultural backgrounds presenting with PTSD, complex trauma, personality disorders, and severe mental illness.
